Advocating on your behalf – Providing our perspective to Norfolk County, Long Point Regional Conservation Authority, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, and other agencies, as required, relating to issues impacting us at Long Point. The LPRA has worked with success on proposed septic/holding tank wastewater charges, Erie Blvd. paving, the Causeway bridge replacement and paving projects, phragmites control efforts, beach dozing, parking and beach access, the paid parking pilot project and the emergency evacuation plan. The LPRA was honoured in 2021 as the recipient of the 2020 FOCA Achievement Award under the category “political involvement” for our appeal of the Norfolk County Medical Order 22 which would have prohibited most Long Point property owners from using their properties during COVID.
Federation of Ontario Cottagers’ Associations (FOCA) – As an LPRA member, you are also a FOCA member and are entitled to all the FOCA Member Association Services and Benefits (e.g. discounts to FOCA events, cottage-home-car insurance packages, Cottage Life magazine discount, etc.). If you attend one of the free FOCA webinars, such as “Cottage Succession,” your $35 registration savings would almost pay for a 2-year LPRA membership.
Newsletters/E-Blasts – Newsletters (almost monthly) and, as required, urgent E-Blasts provide you with regular updates on what is happening in and around Long Point. An extract from a recent Newsletter is attached for your info.
Facebook – LPRA members in good standing can join our highly informative closed Long Point Ratepayers’ Association Facebook group for the latest info.
Contact Information – In the past, we have experienced significant storms and have received reports of damage to roofs, downed trees, etc. We are able to contact our members, but not those who are not members.
Rockin’ on the Point – Since 2015, this annual LPRA community social fundraising event has raised almost $82,000 for phragmites control efforts. In addition, the LPRA has successfully applied for over $25,000 in FOCA and Invasive Species Centre (ISC) Green Shovels Grants for the eradication of phragmites.
Annual General Meeting (AGM) – The AGM is normally held the second Saturday of June. This is an opportunity for members to learn about current issues at Long Point from your Association, guest speakers, and Norfolk County elected officials and staff.
